28 February, 2012
After the recent record floods and extreme wet weather, a new date has been set for the Monsanto Cotton Grower of the Year Field Day to be held again on Friday the 16th of March, 2012 starting at 9am (Qld Time), with this year’s prestigious award going to Ed Willis and the team at Bullamon Plains Pastoral Company in Thallon, Queensland.
The Willis family are deserving winners of this award, as they have been at the forefront of the cotton industry for many years in developing new and innovative ways of managing their most valuable asset, the water on their farm. The team at Bullamon Plains are strongly focussed on maximising the efficiency of their water and labour resources. The main focus of their work has been on developing a Bankless Channel Irrigation System, which has been very successful in greatly reducing their labour requirements, along with improving efficiencies in many other areas, compared to traditional furrow irrigation practices.
This prestigious Field Day has been extremely popular in previous years, and this one is shaping up to be even better. We have relevant and interesting speakers lined up to talk on the day, with the main focus of the day to be on the farm tour of Bullamon Plains, with plenty of time to look at the Bankless Channel Irrigation system, along with plenty of face to face time with the designers and the people who use it every day.
This invitation is open and everyone is welcome to come along to what promises to be a great day out.
Bullamon Plains is located approximately 65km South of St George, towards Thallon on the Carnarvon Highway.
Lunch and refreshments will be available on the day.
More information will be distributed closer to the date.
