The trial site experienced an issue with water infiltration and this affected overall yields. The head ditch end of the trial site was quite different to the tail ditch. Yields were down on the farm average with Sicot 754 B3F topping at 11.34 b/h. Fibre quality was down a little with Sicot 754B3F topping at 37 length. Grades and leaf were good at 11-2s and 11-3s.
Bourke experienced a hot summer with 3,103 Day degrees being recorded compared to an average of 2,642 Day degrees. Night temperatures above 25C were down on last yearメs very hot season. This helped the crops recover from the very warm days.

The trial area was not really representative of the whole field and the rest of the farm. The farm average was over 12 b/h and a field of Sicot 754 B3F went over 15 b/h.
Water infiltration was an issue and the water had to be backed up the field at the trial site to get it to infiltrate. This was due to a steeper slope at the tail ditch end. 10 in crop irrigations were applied following being watered up after planting on the 26th September 2017 following long fallowing from Barley.
Dry conditions following picking have allowed for the majority of the farm now being ready for planting given an improvement in the water situation.
