Field 1 at Wardry has hosted many trials over the years. The latest trial was planted on the 4th October 2017 behind a long fallow after wheat. It was watered up soon after. Plant establishment ranged from 8.3 to 11.3 plants/m over the four varieties. A section of the tail drain area in rep one was affected by a lower plant stand. There was enough additional area in the trial and this part was not picked for the final result.
The crop was well looked after and it received 12 in crop irrigations. Very little in crop rain was received all season. A total of 1.8lt of mepiquat chloride was applied during the season.
Bolls numbers in early March ranged from 148 -131bolls/m and plant height was up to 91cm. 1st position retention was between 64.5% and 60.4% with up to 18 squaring nodes. Sicot 746 B3F at 13.56b/h just pipped Sicot 748 B3F at 13.55b/h for first place at this site. All yields were close and within just over 0.5b/h in the total range. Defoliation was well done and a clean pick followed on the 7th May 2018. Fibre quality and grades were all good.
